Guardians of the Galaxy 2: First Look at Kurt Russell as Ego

At the beginning of this month, during the Super Bowl, Marvel rewarded its loyal fans with a brand new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer. It was fantastic in every conceivable way! It even provided our first look at Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), the gold-covered villain.

Maybe its only drawback was that once again it offered no footage of Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet. In the film, Star-Lord's biological father will appear in two forms: a human avatar that's played by a bearded Russell and his natural planet form. We've seen toys of Ego's human form, but now we can actually see what the legendary actor will look like as the cosmic character.

Keep in mind: A new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been classified, so there's a good shot we'll get to see footage of Russell as Ego in that. And rumor has it: That trailer — which has a runtime of two-minutes and twenty-seconds — will debut on Jimmy Kimmel live this Tuesday.

Created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, Ego appeared as a villain in the comics where he faced off against Thor, Nova, Silver Surfer, and more. He is an actual living planet that comes complete with a brain and innards, and Ego wields some pretty gnarly psionic powers to boot. However, fans shouldn't expect to see too much of Ego in his natural state in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
