Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Clip Sheds Light On Film's Earthbound Scenes

In just a matter of weeks, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be back and swinging into a theater near you. Thanks to Marvel Studios, the intergalactic ragtag team will reunite for a sequel of stellar proportions - and Jimmy Kimmel did his best to hype the debut tonight. The late-night host featured a long segment wherein he sent his buddy Guillermo to cameo in the Guardians filmed, but the gag did culminate with a very brief clip of the movie. Despite its length, fans were able to glean a few bits of information from the footage.

In the clip, fans are shown a quaint town filled with stunned onlookers, and the video soon reveals what they are all gawking at. A massive electric-blue blob of goo has fallen into the center of their town, and folks are shown taking photos of the event. However, when the mass begins to charge forward, the crowd disperses as they run away.

For fans who've kept up with the making of Guardians, they may be familiar with this scene. Last year, a set video hit the Internet which showed this very scene being shot down in Cartersville, GA. The faraway video showed the crowd fleeing for safety whilst cars were upturned behind them by a CGI rig. The video caught attention as it apparently confirmed who Nathan Fillon was appearing as in the film. But, now, a few bits of information have dropped from the Jimmy Kimmel clip.

Previously, fans were uncertain whether the set video was taken of a present-day sequence of flashback. The scene may not be immediate to the Guardians timeline, but it will not be a flashback into the 1980s or even the early 2000s. The biggest piece of information dropped in the new clip is that the actors in the sequence are decked with technology. A shot is shown of an elderly couple filming their town's invader with smartphones, and the cars surrounding the crowd are also not akin to what you'd find decades ago.

Right now, fans have started to speculate just when the scene may take place, but there is no way to be certain about a time stamp at the moment. If the film is in present day, then fans may expect this scene to perhaps collide with Avengers: Infinity War as the cosmic universe makes it way to Earth. The world would certainly be shaken if a pile of sentient intergalactic goo found its way to Earth, and not even Iron Man would know just what to do with the rampaging sludge.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. Be sure to rate it in our Fan Anticipation rankings below!
