Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 promises to unite everybody's favorite band of a-holes with a slew of new characters. One of the most mysterious characters is definitely Ego the Living Planet, who will be played in the film by Kurt Russell.

While it was confirmed in a recent trailer that Ego is, in fact, the father of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), not much is known about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the character.

But now, we have a small indication of what Ego's powers will be, thanks to a recent interview with James Gunn. The director of Vol. 2 sat down with Complex and revealed.

"Ego is a living planet who is able to manifest himself in different ways." Gunn explained. "He's been alone for millions of years and he's learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves, such as Kurt Russell. I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love and perhaps found it in Quill's mother."

With this in mind, the question is if we will actually see Ego in his true form. While it certainly is a weird possibility, it's definitely something that could fit within the world of the film. Some have speculated that we have already gotten a first look at Ego's planetary form, both in the Super Bowl spot and in the film's first poster.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
