Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2: How Thanos Has Affected Nebula & Gamora

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2017, and we here at Comicbook.com were lucky enough to be invited to the set of the film to talk with the cast and crew!

One of the Guardians franchise stars we had the pleasure of sitting down with was Zoe Saldana, who plays Thanos' estranged "daughter," the warrior/assassin known as Gamora. The first Guardians made time to explore the relationship between Gamora and Thanos' other assassin "daughter," Nebula - and in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, we now know that Nebula and Gamoa will be fighting on the same side!

We already know that Josh Brolin's Thanos won't appear directly in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, but with both of his daughters making an appearance, Zoe Saldana says that, "through their relationship, you [get] like a closer idea of what Thanos is really about. I think it's really interesting to open up that window. And [James Gunn] certainly has with this sequel."

As for the how Thanos' evil may have (or not) permanently affected Gamora, Saldana reveals that the character is on the upswing, rather than a downward spiral:

"I just don't know how much, how darker Gamora can go. You know, when you started with her in the first film, she's like full blown assassin. And with a lot of bad habits. Who through the friendship that she initiates with the Guardians like it just, it compels her to sort of turn on a, turn a new leaf, is that the way you guys say it in English? So in this movie, I don't know about her being like a total like bitch, you know? I think there are some sympathetic values to her character that she's gonna try to sort of incorporate. When it comes to her relationship with Nebula, I appreciate what James Gunn did. He definitely heard what the fans were saying, you know."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
