James Gunn Teases Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Release Date

Making a movie is a long, exhausting, an arduous process—especially when it's a blockbuster spectacle along the lines of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

But James Gunn has committed to finishing the story of his franchise with a third film and—in a Facebook post where he thanks the fans all over the globe for their huge response to the new movie—he might have just revealed when we can expect to see Vol. 3 in theaters.

"Thank you so much, my Facebook friends, for supporting me over the past two and a half years, and thank you for all the messages letting us know we've keyed into the frequency of your hearts," Gunn wrote on the social media platform. "I love you all, and I'll continue being here with you over the next three years as we create Vol. 3."

That time frame puts it right in line with the last movie, which came out in the summer of 2014. If the production and release schedule for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 follows the same route and doesn't suffer any significant delays, we could reasonably expect to see the next installment in theaters in the summer of 2020.

Gunn didn't hide his contemplations over whether or not he'd make a third film. As previously stated, it's a difficult and time-consuming ordeal. Making one movie of this scale is certainly taxing, and two of them back to back is an achievement. But a third one?

After nearly a decade spent crafting the cosmos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gunn deserves a long, long vacation to somewhere warm and tropical. Preferably with an umbrella in his drink.
