Hugh Jackman Compares Wolverine To Batman & Predicts Mutant's Return

The world of superheroes is an ever-changing one, and the X-Men Cinematic Universe just experienced its first big rift this year. Logan made its way into theaters this spring and bid farewell to Hugh Jackman's take on the Wolverine. Now, the actor is looking back on the gig, and Jackman is even predicting how the Wolverine might make his comeback.

Thanks to The Independent, fans have learned Jackman has come to terms with Wolverine returning to the big screen without him. The actor sat down with Lorraine Kelly on her ITV breakfast show and admitted Logan will return without him.

"He'll come back, just not with me," Jackman said. "Well, except on Saturday nights at my house. I dress up! When my kids are not doing their homework, I dress up and the claws come out. I just have to do that [raise an eyebrow] with the claws and it works!"

Continuing, Jackman stressed the role of Wolverine was too good to let die with his exit. "Definitely someone else will play the role, it's a great role. You know, it's like a Bond or it's like a Batman, those kinds of roles. Other people will play him for sure."

Of course, Jackman isn't wrong about his comparison; Wolverine has only been played by one star so far, but his movie icon status gives him the same freedom Batman and James Bond enjoy. The DC hero has been played by dozens of actors over the year like Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Adam West, Michael Keaton, and more. As for Bond, the British agent has been played by actors such as Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.

Moving forward, there's no telling who 20th Century Fox may tap to revive Wolverine, but the studio does have a clear choice already. Dafne Keen introduced Laura Kinney - AKA X-23 - to moviegoers through Logan. The heroine is sourced straight from the comics, and Laura does take up the Wolverine mantle eventually since she is cloned from Logan's DNA. Fans were quick to fawn over X-23's debut performance, so it wouldn't be too jarring for audiences to accept Laura as the next Wolverine. Even Jackman has admitted he liked to see his co-star take over his former role, so that is one less battle Fox would have to face!

Logan is out now on Digital HD and will release on Blu-ray on July 10.
