Logan Extended Synopsis Hints At A Dangerous Secret

UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has released a statement revealing that this synopsis was "made-up." It has since been removed from the Berlin Film Festival website. The original story follows.

Later this spring, superhero fans will flock to their local theaters to experience Hugh Jackman's last run as Wolverine. The actor will reprise the coveted X-Men role in Logan, and fans are naturally eager to see the final film. After all, the flick has marketed itself to be a new kind of superhero project, and the movie's somber trailers have only piqued fans interest. Now, the film is preparing to make its debut at Berlin Film Festival, and the event has caught the interest of fans after releasing an extended synopsis for the movie.

You can check out the synopsis below, but be warned! It is a tad on the spoiler side:

"In 2024 the mutant population has shrunk significantly and the X-Men have disbanded. Logan, whose power to self-heal is dwindling, has surrendered himself to alcohol and now earns a living as a chauffeur. He takes care of the ailing old Professor X whom he keeps hidden away. One day, a female stranger asks Logan to drive a girl named Laura to the Canadian border. At first he refuses, but the Professor has been waiting for a long time for her to appear. Laura possesses an extraordinary fighting prowess and is in many ways like Wolverine. She is pursued by sinister figures working for a powerful corporation; this is because her DNA contains the secret that connects her to Logan. A relentless pursuit begins … In this third cinematic outing featuring the Marvel comic book character Wolverine we see the superheroes beset by everyday problems. They are ageing, ailing and struggling to survive financially. A decrepit Logan is forced to ask himself if he can or even wants to put his remaining powers to good use. It would appear that in the near-future, the times in which they were able put the world to rights with razor sharp claws and telepathic powers are now over."

The revealing synopsis has a few notable points, but it is the nod to Laura that has fans exciting. The girl, who is better known to comic book readers as X-23, is canonically a clone of Wolverine in the Marvel Universe. The synopsis seems to hint that relationship may still be intact in the X-Men film franchise, but only time will tell how the two are truly related on-screen. And, what's more, the synopsis hints at a "female stranger" who asks Logan to ferry the mutant child around. Could this be Laura's mother? Does Wolverine have any connections with her?

It seems fans will have to keep these questions in mind until Logan makes its debut later this year. Of course, many had already assumed Laura and Logan were connected even if they'd never picked up a comic. In the film's trailers, fans can see the young girl beatdown a slew of baddies with her own metal-coated claws, and the image could only be sourced back to the older, surly X-Men character.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
