Logan: First Look at X-23 Claws Out and In Action

Sure, the movie is called Logan, and it's Hugh Jackman's #OneLastTime as Wolverine, but for X-Men fans casual and die-hard, X-23 is stealing the show. A female clone of Logan, X-23 throws a wrench into his retirement plans in the film. Young actress Dafne Keen plays X-23 aka Laura, and director James Mangold is thrilled about what the character brings to the film.

NEXT: Why X-23 Will Be The Best Part of LOGAN

"One of the things we've never had to see Logan contend with is the rigors of parenthood," Logan director James Mangold told ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis during a special 20th Century Fox event for the film. "In this case, Logan being a hot-tempered, foul-mouthed, prone to violence loner, when he meets his own relfection in a child. That's gonna cause some sparks in a relationship that I think are what happen in the remainder of the movie that you haven't seen."

But while relationships and testing Logan's boundaries are fun and all - we're here for the claws. Yes, X-23 has claws of her own; traditionally in the comics she has two in each hand, and one in each foot. While we don't see the latter in action in the trailer (gotta save something for the film, we suppose, if they're used at all), the hand claws come out several times, and she is every bit the vicious berzerker as her dear old "dad." When soldiers are sent in after her early in the trailer, well, it doesn't work out for them. She walks out, and moves toward Donald Pierce (played by Boyd Holbrook) as he says "no... no!"

Yeah, people are gonna be cheering for this little girl.

You also get to see her go full on berserker rage, stabbing some guys in the head, cutting off a cybernetic arm, you know, usual kid's stuff. Much like Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass, there's just something about a diminutive young girl being so fearless and badass that wows more than any other action in the trailer can.
