Marvel Announces Captain Britain And The Mighty Defenders

Marvel Comics has announced Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders, a new series launching during the Secret Wars event.

The two-part limited series combines two fan titles and teams: Captain Britain and the MI:13 and The Mighty Avengers. Fitting then that Mighty Avengers series writer Al Ewing will pen the series, with famed Captain Britain artist Alan Davis providing art.

The series takes place on Battleworld, on the border between two regions, Mondo City and Yinsen City. The former is a dystopian city comparable to Mega-City 1 from 2000 AD's Judge Dredd comics, ruled over by Boss Cage. The other is a utopian society created by Ho Yinsen, an alternate reality version of Iron Man.

The Captain Britain of the series will not be the traditional Brian Braddock, but rater Faiza Hussain, a character who first appeared as the wielder of Excalibur in Captain Britain and the MI:13 whom Ewing briefly made Captain Britain during Age of Ultron.

"I just wanted to give Faiza-Cap another go in the spotlight," Ewing tells Blastr. "It was a bit sad for me that, because of the date the issue in question dropped, her timeline had already been erased when she got the title. So, since I had the opportunity on Battleworld to revisit old timelines and alternate universes, I figured that'd be one to come back to for another visit."

Secret Wars begins in May. Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders ships in July. Check out the first cover below.
