Marvel Artist Reveals Alternate Captain America Venomverse Costume Designs

Edge of Venomverse gave the Marvel Universe a symbiote makeover, and it turns out the Venom Cap originally looked much more menacing.

Marvel artist Mike Hawthorne worked on the character designs for the popular project, which has so far starred Venom-like redesigns of Gwenpool, Wolverine, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, and more. Captain America also sports a new costume, but as you can see in the image below, it got a little tweaking before it hit the page.

Hawthorne posted the image with the caption "Want a peek behind the scenes? Ok, I'm going to share some of the character design work I did for Marvel's Venomverse event where various Marvel characters get the venom symbiote. First up, Captain America (Captain Venom?). Anyway, enjoy!"

The biggest difference is the helmet, which covers his whole face with a graffiti-like A scribbled on it. This version also went all black, with white in the symbols and glove accessories. The final version sports a more traditional helmet, with red in the boots and gloves. This original design seems more in keeping with the tone of that universe though, so kind of wish they had kept this one.

There's also an alternate version with tendrils coming out of the armor and flowing over the symbol, along with some spikes for good measure. This one is cool but doesn't beat that original. You can also see some alternate versions of the mask in the subsequent photos. Check them all out above.
