Marvel NOW! Reveals A New Spider-Man And Gwen Stacy Romance

07/13/2016 01:27 pm EDT

Marvel Comics today released the Marvel NOW! Previews Magazine, detailing the new and returning titles that are part of the company's latest publishing initiative. Two of the continuing titles in the Spider-Man family line are Spider-Man, starring Miles Morales, and Spider-Gwen, starring Gwen Stacy, the Spider-Woman of Earth-65.

Spider-Gwen and Spider-Man were carefully placed facing each other in the Marvel NOW! Previews Magazine to reveal what appears to be a blossoming new romance between the two young spider-heroes. The promotional art for Spider-Gwen #15 shows Miles and Gwen swinging through the city, with the tagline reading, "Miles and Gwen sitting in a tree…" Opposite of that is the promotional art for Spider-Man #12, which features the two heroes kissing while hanging upside-down, with the tagline reading, "…K-I-S-S-I-N-G."

This is going to come as a disappointment to certain fans who have been shipping Miles and Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, who were both made members of the Avengers following the events of Secret Wars, and who will both be founding members of the new Champions following the events of Civil War II.

The Gwen Stacy of the main Marvel universe, formerly Earth-616, was famously Peter Parker's first love who died at the hands of the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn. Even though the Gwen Stacy who is Spider-Woman is an entirely different person with a very different history, the idea of a different Spider-Man also becoming romantically involved with Gwen Stacy is sure to raise the eyebrows of longtime fans.

Spider-Gwen #15 and Spider-Man #12 will be both be released as part of Marvel NOW! in Fall 2016.
