Marvel's Doctor Strange Passes $150 Million At The Box Office

Bolstered by a strong Veteran's Day showing, Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange will top the box office for the second consecutive week, crossing the $150 million mark along the way.

Doctor Strange earned $43 million over the course of its second weekend, bringing its domestic box office total to $153 million.

Fox's animated Trolls movie remains in second place. Trolls earned $34.8 million this weekend, bringing its box office total to $93.7 million.

Arrival debuted in third place at the box office, beating projections to earn $23.4 million over three days.

Holiday flick Almost Christmas debuts in fourth place with $15.3 million, while Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge drops to fifth, earning $11.5 million over the weekend to bring its box office total to $32.9 million.

In Doctor Strange, Dr. Stephen Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) life changes after a car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he looks for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave. He quickly learns that the enclave is at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying reality. Before long, Strange is forced to choose between his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson, who wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill from a story by Derrickson, Cargill, and Jon Spaihts. Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton.

In Trolls, after the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embark on a rescue mission full of adventure and mishaps - trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

Trolls was directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn and was written by Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger and Erica Rivinoja. Trolls stars Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Russell Brand, James Corden and Gwen Stefani.

In Arrival, linguistics professor Louise Banks leads an elite team of investigators when humongous spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.

Arrival is directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Eric Heisserer, based on the short story "Story of Your Life" by author Ted Chiang. The film stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg and Tzi Ma.
