Cable Creator Rob Liefeld Comments on Deadpool 2 Casting Rumors

Bringing iconic X-Men character Cable into the X-Men movie universe has been a hard task, as there have been years of rumors surrounding the character making an appearance in live-action, but no real forward progress. That includes casting an actor play Cable; many have been nominated (Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Jon Hamm, Kyle Chandler...), but none have been officially signed.

A recent social media tease from Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine 3 star Hugh Jackman got fans buzzing about another possibility: James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan playing cable.

Ever since Brosnan's name entered the ring of speculation and rumoring, fans have had a lot to say about it (love it, hate it, don't care...), and have also been seeking confirmation from a trusted source: the man who created both Cable and Deadpool, comic book icon Rob Liefeld.

As you can see from the tweet above, Liefeld is keeping mum about where things are in terms of casting cable, but is still hyping the (what he deems) massive interest in the role.

This is no surprise, of course: Liefeld is in the running with fellow Image Comics pioneer Todd McFarlane (Spawn) when it comes to the frequency of talking up his character(s) potential in a live-action movie. However, with all the buzzing and social media responses, it does seem like we are close to getting that coveted Cable casting announcement...

Deadpool 2 will bring back star Ryan Reynolds and bring on new director David Leitch (John Wick). The sequel will introduce both Cable and Domino, another mutant mercenary who has a history with both Deadpool and Cable. Brianna Hildebrand is also said to return as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, along with her X-Men mentor Colossus.
