Ryan Reynolds Fighting For Deadpool To Be R-Rated

The rating for the upcoming Deadpool movie has been a point of some contention. Many fans feel that a Deadpool movie can't be done properly without the gory freedom of an R rating, but to give it such a rating may hurt the film's chances of box office success by preventing Wade's teenaged fans from getting in on the fun.
Star Ryan Reynolds posted to Twitter today, responding to a question about the rating. Seems he's fighting hard, even yelling, to try to get Deadpool an R rating.
The demand for an R rating is interesting, and seems to be a demand for an old school kind of Deadpool. When first introduced in the early 1990s, Deadpool was a serious business, grim n' gritty assassin who specialized in brutal violence, the kind of thing that would demand an R rating. Modern Deadpool has a much more comedic tone, and – with the exception of his Marvel MAX titles – has fit solidly into the standard "PG-13" tone of most superhero comics. It will be interesting to see which version of Deadpool, modern or classic, eventually wins out..
Deadpool is currently filming and will open in theaters February 12, 2016.
