Spider-Man 3 Editor's Cut Removed From Amazon Right After Release

Ahead of the Wall Crawler's first feature film as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony has released an updated version of the most maligned entry in their first series of Spider-Man films.

Spider-Man 3 was a smashing box office success but the film was panned by fans and critics alike. It was since become infamous for its depictions of emo Spidey, smarmy Venom, sad Sandman, and pie-loving Harry.

The movie was already packed full in its 139-minute runtime, despite the abundance of deleted scenes that were revealed in its home video release. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 might be considered enjoyable for how bad it is, despite having a lot of promise in adapting the source material of the Black Suit storyline.

Sony stealthily released an Editor's Cut of Spider-Man 3 on Amazon to little fanfare, but the listing has since been removed and is unavailable for purchase on the site. Perhaps the listing was a mistake?

A reddit review says there are little differences between this version and what was originally released, so it might not be a "better" movie, per se. Check out the box art below.

It still has all of the highlights, including swing-dancing Peter Parker, funk-strutting Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Harry doing the "Twist," and Sandman nonsensically teaming with Venom and attempting to murder Spider-Man despite being portrayed as a misunderstood, down-on-his-luck father throughout the entire film.

Critical response to the original version was dismal, despite being the most successful film in the character's box office history. After Raimi couldn't settle on a script or story for a planned fourth film, he pulled out and Sony decided to reboot the franchise with Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man. Those films failed to meet expectations and the studio decided to reboot yet again after two movies, making a deal with Marvel Studios to put the character in the MCU.


The first film in that planned partnership is set for release this summer with Spider-Man: Homecoming out on July 7.

Though it's currently unavailable, we hope Amazon releases the Editor's Cut for purchase once again if only so we can relive Peter Parker lobbing a pumpkin bomb at his best friend and disfiguring him for the rest of his (short) life over and over again.
