New Spider-Man Animated Feature Brings On Gravity Falls Creator

It looks like Sony's new animated Spider-Man movie just brought on some major talent. The highly anticipated project may not have its debut until December, but the folks behind the film are already hard at work. Now, a new member has been brought on-board to assist the crew, and it will be a familiar one to many. The creator of Gravity Falls has officially signed onto the project as a story contributor.

Thanks to The Wrap, fans learnt of Alex Hirsch's involvement with Spider-Man not long ago. The beloved director will be joining Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey as the pair are directing the feature. Phil Lord and Chris Miller from The LEGO Movie will be overseeing the film's script. The writer will then be producing the movie alongside Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Christina Steinberg.

Of course, hype over the film has been steadily growing as updates continue to get released. Earlier this year, Sony Pictures confirmed the feature would feature Miles Morales as Spider-Man rather than Peter Parker.

"@PhilipLord and @ChrizMillr are bringing the Miles Morales story to the big screen in all-new animated stand-alone SPIDER-MAN feature," Sony tweeted back in January. "Experience the upcoming stand-alone animated SPIDER-MAN feature, directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey, in theaters 12/21/18."

The animated feature is not the only Spider-Man media getting a release this year. Many fans are already aware that the teenage hero will get another standalone movie this summer. Spider-Man: Homecoming will see Tom Holland bring the Queens character back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And, over on Disney XD, the network has plans to debut a new Spider-Man animated series come July.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017. A sequel for the much-anticipated film has already been announced for 2019.
