Spider-Man: Homecoming Originally Included A Daily Bugle Easter Egg

Spider-Man: Homecoming is another successful addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, effectively replacing the films of Sony's Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man franchises with a new vision of the Wall-Crawler that has pleased more fans and critics alike.

It's undeniable that Homecoming was a different sort of Spider-Man movie - one that skipped over many core staples of the character, such has origin story (and Uncle Ben), his Spider Sense power (it's coming!), and of course, his work at The Daily Bugle Newspaper.

However, as we're now learning, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts actually did include The Daily Bugle in an original version of the film's story - though, not like fans would've expected.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein recounted how an earlier version of the Spider-Man: Homecoming story had Peter Parker working as a social media savvy modern kid, making money off of his Spider-Man videos.

As Goldstein describes it, "Peter has sort of a new version of his Daily Bugle, anonymously [posting] these YouTube videos of him doing various stunts as Spider-Man and also saving the day. And filming it with a GoPro camera and just racking up the money that he gets off the number of views that these videos get."

That idea for the new "Daily Bugle" was abandoned when the writers went back to connect Spider-man: Homecoming to the events of Captain America: Civil War, and instead made Peter's video blog all about his time fighting with and against The Avengers.

As it stands, The Daily Bugle is still one of the elements of the Spider-Man mythos that fans want to see expanded in Homecoming sequels. In fact, we even have some theories as to how the iconic institution may show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

The cast includes Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, and Hannibal Buress.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are in theaters now, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
