Jon Watts Addresses Spider-Man: Homecoming's 'Only Real Flaw'

The latest Spider-Man movie is now in theaters where it is currently outperforming box office predictions and leaving fans and critics satisfied.

The certified-fresh Spider-Man: Homecoming is yet another impressive entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's not without its flaws. And those flaws are not more apparent than to the filmmaker who made the movie, director Jon Watts.

Watts revealed that he thinks the movie's biggest issue takes place during one of Spider-Man's biggest screwups, which in turn becomes a heroic triumph for the character and a watershed moment for his growth as a protector. The scene in question takes place on the ferry during his confrontation with the Vulture and the Shocker.

"The only real flaw is that [in our movie] there are cars on the ferry, and there haven't been cars allowed since the '90s," Watts said to EW. "So I'll declare that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they never had these rules."

In the scene, the Vulture uses salvaged alien tech to try and hurt Spidey. Spider-Man accidentally uses a taser web on his weapon which causes it to malfunction and rip the ship in half, sending dozens of ferried vehicles tumbling into the water.

Vulture and Shocker escape, and Spider-Man is stretched to his limits while attempting to keep the ferry from sinking when he is assisted by Iron Man.

In the real world, passenger vehicles have been banned from being transported on Staten Island ferries since the 2001 September 11 attacks.

It's an oversight a good portion of the United States population likely overlooked and doesn't really break the immersion. But it's an oversight nonetheless, and it's interesting to note that it's the big one the director of the film noticed in his film.
