Spider-Man: Homecoming Actress Teases Her Secretive Role

Spider-Man: Homecoming has managed to keep a few secrets close to the chest, including who exactly actress Jona Xiao is playing.

Much of the mystery has surrounded Zendaya's casting, but in an interview with Polygon the focus was on Xiao, who was being very careful with her words. "I really don't think I can say much of anything," Xiao joked. "Everything I say could be taken as a spoiler."

While she wouldn't reveal what the character's name is or her affiliation, she did drop a few hints, saying "One of the actors I got to work with was Marisa Tomei [Aunt May]. It was very exciting to work with someone I've respected for so long. She actually cast me in my role. She was a part of the team who got to select the actor for that particular role."

With Tomei having such an active part in the casting, that might mean Xiao has a deeper involvement with Peter's Tom Holland.

Xiao also said, "My character is part of a revelation that happens in the film, at a very dramatic point". Could that mean a twist involving the Vulture? Or maybe it has something to do with Mary Jane, who at this point has not been confirmed for the film but many suspect will be a part of it.

So many questions, but the good news is the movie is almost here to answer them.

Spider-Man: Homecoming currently has a 4.14 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings, and you can view the full description below.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast includes Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, and Hannibal Buress.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters now. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
