Spider-Man: Homecoming Cast And Crew Discuss Michael Keaton's Vulture

With all of the commotion surrounding Spider-Man's first feature film under the Marvel Studios banner, some aspects are receiving more focus than others.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is an event with the title character's presence alone. Adding Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man to the mix only amplifies the film's exposure. But what about Michael Keaton's first appearance in a superhero film since Batman Returns came out over 25 years ago?

The stars and producers of the film discussed Keaton's portrayal of The Vulture in the new movie as part of Disney Channel's "A Fan's Guide To Spider-Man."

"The Vulture's realizing there's this black market in trading MCU relics the he can sell this stuff on," said executive producer Jeremy Latcham. "We're going to see that guy's rise in this criminal underworld."

"The idea that there's detritus from all the other movies that had settled and that's hidden and that's out there," director Jon Watts added, "the Vulture, he was just sort of an engineer who built this wing suit to try and collect that stuff and do something with it."

Keaton, like many great actors, doesn't exactly see his character as a villain.

"I found a really interesting approach to what you all wanna call a villain," Keaton began. "He does corrupt things in order to fight what he sees as corruption and I think he has a pretty strong argument."

We'll get to see this iconic Spider-Man character's first big screen appearance when Spider-Man: Homecoming premieres in theaters July 7.
