'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Has Some Clever Marketing In Japan

Marvel and Disney's international marketing team for Spider-Man: Homecoming took the movie's Japanese film to new heights, somewhat literally.

A fan on Reddit shared a photo of some clever marketing for Spider-Man: Homecoming in Japan. While the theatrical poster showing Spider-Man hanging off of a skyscraper is familiar to Marvel fans by now, in Japan that same image of Spider-Man was applied to an actual skyscraper, the Mori Tower in Tokyo, so that people inside the building to could see Spidey looming large over the city's skyline.

Take a look below.

Japan isn't the only international market having fun with its Spider-Man: Homecoming marketing. China has an entire line of unexpectedly fun Spider-Man: Homecoming posters, and at least one poster with a much darker tone.

That marketing campaign seems to be paying off for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The first Spider-Man movie set inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expected to gross over $780 million worldwide. The film has already grossed over $20 million in Japan and $740 million worldwide, with its Chinese opening still to come.

Domestically, Spider-Man: Homecoming has earned more than $324 million, beating the domestic box office total of the original Iron Man (though that does not take inflation or 3D movie prices into account).

Plans are already being made for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in July 2019. Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are signed on to return for the sequel and director Jon Watts is in talks to do the same.

Spider-Man: Homecoming currently has an 86.57 ComicBook.com Composite Score, the fourth highest ComicBook.com Composite Score of any comic book movie, and a 4.24 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Rating, making it the fourth best loved comic book movie of all time among ComicBook.com users.
