Teacher Dresses As Spider-Man To Teach Science

Peter Parker is one of the comic book characters most regularly associated with the field of science. Aside from, of course, the scientific nature of his origin story as Spider-Man, Peter himself has often been shown to be interested in the field in the fifty-five years since his debut, even earning a science scholarship to Empire State University.

And now, one man is taking Peter's love of science to a whole other level.

A recent viral video, courtesy of CNN's human interest Youtube channel Great Big Story, introduces viewers to Moises Vasquez, a science professor in Mexico City. Vasquez, as it turns out, adds a bit of flair to his classes at Autonomous University by coming to class dressed as Spider-Man.

While this wardrobe choice was initially met with confusion by Vasquez's students and peers, it has since been embraced, with him becoming known as the "Spider-Man of Science."

According to Vasquez, the goal of him dressing up as the famous webslinger isn't to garner attention or fame, but rather to foster a bond with his students. Vasquez himself says that he was inspired by the 2011 comic Amazing Spider-Man #661, in which Peter is asked to serve as a substitute teacher for the Avengers Academy.

"I would love for people to see that we can always do our work with more feeling." Vasquez explains. "In my case, disguising myself motivates me to be a better teacher, but everyone should find a way to do their work with more happiness and more purpose."

We have a feeling that Peter Parker himself would agree with that.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Marshall-Green, and Marisa Tomei.

The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
