Tom Holland Plans To Play Spider-Man For A Very Long Time

Over the years, several Hollywood stars have failed to hold on to Spider-Man for the long haul. Tobey Maguire suited up as the superhero for three films before Andrew Garfield stepped in for a two-film reboot. Most recently, Tom Holland inherited the role in Sony Pictures' latest take on the Marvel icon. So far, the British actor has only donned the hero's costume once, but Holland has high hopes for his future. In a recent interview, the actor confessed he's pitched a plan to executives which would allow him to play Peter Parker for a long time to come.

Speaking with Empire, Holland said Peter Parker has more longevity than some fans may realize. "Peter Parker is a character we see [in the comic books] as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man," Holland began.

"So I have an idea of what I'd like to do, and I've pitched it and it's already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time."

If Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were able to work out such a long-term deal, then Holland might follow in the steps of Robert Downey Jr. or Clark Gregg. Both actors have played their respective MCU roles of Tony Stark and Phil Coulson for a decade now - and Holland surely envies their stable superhero gig.

For now, there is no telling how long Spider-Man will live within the MCU; The character's existence will boil down to behind-the-scenes negotiations between Marvel and Sony. However, the former studio's president isn't against having Holland stick around. When Kevin Feige spoke to Empire, the executive producer told the magazine Spider-Man could learn a thing or two from Harry Potter.

"Harry Potter became the example, though Peter's clearly not as young as Harry was in the first film. There's certainly a fun potential three-film structure that can be had, between sophomore, junior and senior year," Feige teased.

Filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming began in June 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Georgia. There were also on location shoots in an Atlanta high school, a hotel, and Atlanta's West End. Some filming did take place in New York City, where the film wrapped production in October 2016.
