Bendis And Pichelli Reunite For Spider-Men II, The Mystery Of Miles Morales

Poor, poor Miles Morales. Ever since the new Spider-Man made his debut in the Ultimate Universe he's had a rough go of the superhero gig.

He watched his super villain uncle die, his mom get killed by Venom, his entire universe get destroyed, certain elements of his world revived and shuffled into the main Marvel universe, his mom come back to life, his father get roped into being a SHIELD agent (again), being prophesized to murder Captain America, forced to share a room with Goldballs, his father being stranded in a strange dimension, saving his father from the strange dimension, seeing a parallel world where he marries Gwen Stacy, making out with Gwen Stacy, then being friendzoned by Gwen Stacy.

Now, just as it looks like he's actually going to have to kill Steve Rogers, original co-creators Sara Pichelli and Brian Michael Bendis are returning to the character to put him through yet another ringer.

The first Spider-Men series teamed up the 616 Parker in the Ultimate Universe with his replacement counterpart to take on Mysterio. Parker was able to provide Ultimate Aunt May with a sense of closure after her nephew passed away and mentored Miles as they stopped Mysterio from messing with a wormhole that threatened to destroy both of their worlds.

That series ended with Peter Parker returning home and hopping on the ole' Google machine to search the name "Miles Morales," and being surprised with what popped up.

Nothing ever came of the cliffhanger, and it seemed like that ship sailed with Miles being brought into the 616, but apparently that's the perfect time to revisit that dangling plot thread.

"It's exciting just because this series is the one I'm asked the most about," Bendis said to Marvel.com. "'When are you gonna follow up on this?' and there just wasn't a good time to do it until now, and all the stuff that's happened since then has made the story that much more potent."

Spider-Men II was just solicited for release in July. Justin Ponsor joins the team on colors, with a variant cover from Daniel Acuña! And if you don't know what the fuss is about, Spider-Men #1 is now free on the Marvel Comics app and Digital Store.
