Tabletop: Codenames Getting Disney And Marvel Versions

Codenames has become a party staple at board game nights everywhere, and the game's influence will only expand with two newly announced editions of the hit game.

USAopoly is teaming up with Czech Games (creators of the original game) and Disney to offer two new versions of the game. The first will be the Disney Family Edition, which will include characters and locations from some of Disney Pixar's most popular films. They will also offer the Marvel Edition, which will be styled more like a party game with characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man.

"We recognized that Codenames was perfect for pairing with the Disney, Disney-Pixar, and Marvel franchises. We are confident the Disney, Disney-Pixar and Marvel versions of Codenames will complement our extraordinary portfolio of game brands," noted USAopoly President and CEO John M. Davis.

The original Codenames took home the Spiel des Jahres award, the highest award you can attain in the board game industry. These new versions will only help to expand the audience and reach of the game with two of pop culture's most popular properties.

"We're particularly enthusiastic about the artwork, as it includes a great mix of characters and locations that Disney, Disney-Pixar, and Marvel fans will appreciate," Davis went on to say.

The two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their CODENAMES. The teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first. Spymasters give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board. Their teammates try to guess words of the right color while avoiding those that belong to the opposing team. And everyone wants to avoid the assassin.

Codenames: win or lose, it's fun to figure out the clues.
