The Punisher may not be alone when his Daredevil spinoff series arrives on Netflix later this year.

According to a report from MCU Exchange, Marvel's Senior Vice President of Creator and Content Development CB Cebulski stated during a Marvel Cinematic Universe presentation at Asia Pop Comic-Con in Manila that "another Marvel hero may be showing up [in The Punisher]"

The statement was followed by an audible gasp from the audience. Cebulski revealed no more than that.

As MCU Exchange notes, there are some interesting possibilities that this news could be hinting at, but first, SPOILERS for Marvel's The Defenders follow.

At the end of The Defenders, Daredevil is believed dead by the other heroes. Before he sent the others away, he asked Danny Rand to protect New York City. Perhaps Frank Castle will encounter the Iron Fist, the new protector of Hell's Kitchen, in the first season of The Punisher.

Rand has filled in for Matt Murdock in the Marvel Comics universe as well. When Matt Murdock was in prison, Rand actually dressed up as Daredevil and continued protecting the city in Murdock's place in order to protect Murdock's secret identity.

Another possibility is that The Punisher will bring a brand new character from the Marvel Universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Punisher is a character with a military history and that will play into the show's first season.

Another hero with a military past is Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight. There have been occasional rumors about Marvel trying to get Moon Knight adapted into television or film in one form or another for quite some time. He'd be right at home alongside Frank Castle.

In The Punisher, after the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he will become known as The Punisher.

Marvel's The Punisher is the first series to spin out of one of Marvel's other Netflix shows. Bernthal debuted the role of Frank Castle in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil.
