'Thor: Ragnarok' Director On How The Film Never Took Itself Too Seriously

Thor: Ragnarok is looking to be one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most lighthearted ventures yet - something that apparently carried over to the film's set.
The film's director, Taika Waititi, recently addressed the on-set mindset in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. As he explained, the goal was to remember that Ragnarok has pretty outlandish subject matter, even with its apocalyptic-sounding title.
"If we were taking things a little too seriously," Waititi revealed, "I would say, 'Never forget that we're making a cosmic adventure with a space Viking.' That sort of captures it all."
Considering Ragnarok's cast of unconventional characters, Waititi said that the youthful sensibility came pretty easily.
"We've got the Incredible Hulk, and a giant woman with antlers. We've got aliens and spaceships. It's almost like a bunch of kids were asked what they wanted to put into a movie, and then we just did that."
It's clear that Ragnarok will be a little different from the previous Thor installments, with Waititi previously hinting that he treats his project as if it's a completely standalone film. Fans will get to see his vision come to life when Thor: Ragnarok premieres this November.
Thor: Ragnarok currently has a 4.16 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating, making it the third most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
