Todd McFarlane Draws Ghost Rider

Tonight, Marvel's Ghost Rider made his live-action TV debut on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

And yesterday, legendary comic book artist and Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane did his part to kick the hype machine into overdrive with a live-drawing of Ghost Rider on Facebook.

McFarlane, currently co-writing and inking his long-running, creator-owned comic Spawn, doesn't draw nearly as many Marvel and DC characters as he used to, so checking out a live-drawing of any character -- let alone one like Ghost Rider, who shares so much creative DNA with Spawn, is a bit of a treat for his fans over 120,000 of whom have already watched the video embedded below.

On his website last week, McFarlane had hinted at the prospect of doing a Ghost Rider video, in a post titled "Why I Liked Drawing Ghost Rider So Much."

He drew the character during his time on Spider-Man, in a story where Spidey and Ghost Rider teamed up against the Hobgoblin.

"A little later when I started Image Comics and Spawn, I added a few of those accessories INCLUDING spikes and chains to Spawn's Costume because I STILL enjoyed drawing them…and they're just COOL," McFarlane wrote.

"I really love how serious [we take Ghost Rider]," said actor Gabriel Luna, who plays Robbie Reyes -- the Ghost Rider in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. "We're definitely infusing it with a lot of gravitas and true-to-life emotional struggle. He's just trying to be a normal guy who has to care for his brother [and] deal with these very real family ties. Meanwhile, [he's] moonlighting as the Spirit of Vengeance and going out at night and putting more X's on the wall when it comes to taking out bad guys."

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. New episodes started back up today.

Todd McFarlane will be headed to New York Comic Con in two weeks to show off some of his new toy lines.
