Ultron Referenced In Agents Of SHIELD Midseason Finale Clip

ABC has released the first clip from Tuesday's winter finale of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and it features references to Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After Eli Morrow (Jose Zuniga) wiped out an entire S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical team "with a few shards of carbon that he created out of thin air," Director Mace (Jason O'Mara) meets with Coulson (Clark Gregg) and May (Ming-Na Wen) to discuss their next move. Coulson wants them to use their "big guns," which includes Daisy (Chloe Bennet), Robbie (Gabriel Luna), and Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley).

When Mace mentions utilizing Aida (Mallory Jansen) as well, Coulson puts all cards on the table, revealing to the director that Aida is an android. Mace finds this revelation unsettling for several reasons. "That totally goes against the Sokovia Accords," Mace says. "Doesn't anyone remember Ultron?"

Reluctantly, Mace thinks Aida is asset they need to utilize. "I want her on this mission," he adds. "We'll dismantle her afterwards." Yup, good luck with that!

S.H.I.E.L.D. and Ghost Rider find themselves unlikely allies when the lives of all of Los Angeles hang in the balance.

The regular cast features Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, and Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie.

The guest cast includes John Hannah as Holden Radcliffe, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, Jason O'Mara as Director Jeffrey Mace, Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, Mallory Jansen as Aida, Patrick Cavanaugh as Burrows, Jose Zuniga as Eli Morrow, Blaise Miller as Agent Nathanson, and Coleen Sullivan as reporter and Steve Suh as Peng.

"The Laws of Inferno Dynamics" was written by Paul Zbyszewski and directed by Kevin Tancharoen.
