Last night's episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD revealed the origin of Robbie Reyes and showed that the "devil" he made a deal with to become Ghost Rider was actually another Ghost Rider himself.

The previous Ghost Rider was not named in the episode, which left his identity up to some interpretation.

Gabriel Luna, the actor who plays Robbie Reyes on Agents of SHIELD, may have just put the mystery to bed. Luna tweeted out a cover and a page of interior artwork from All-New Ghost Rider, both of which depict a team up between Robbie Reyes and original Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze.

Johhny Blaze was always the most likely candidate. In the Marvel Comics Universe, Blaze was a motorcycle stuntman who was orphaned by his parents. When his adoptive father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Johnny sold his soul to the devil to save his father. The price was that a demon was bound to his soul, transforming him into Ghost Rider and cursing him to struggle to control the demon's thirst for violence.

Blaze is the remains the best-known version of Ghost Rider, having been played by Nicholas Cage in both Ghost Rider live-action movies. In the Marvel Comics Universe, he has been featured in other stories that involve him passing the Spirit of Vengeance on to someone else, much like he did with Robbie Reyes in "The Good Samaritan."

Blaze is also looked at as a mentor by all other characters to become Ghost Rider. Specifically, he helped Robbie Reyes in All-New Ghost Rider when Robbie was struggling to control the spirit inside of him. This gives Johnny Blaze a role to play later in Robbie's story on Agents of SHIELD.

If Agents of SHIELD fans are looking for a new mystery to ponder, consider this: are Luna's images simply meant to show his excitement over Blaze's appearance in the Robbie Reyes origin flashback, or is he teasing a future Agents of SHIELD Ghost Riders team up that will see Reyes and Blaze fighting back to back like they are in Tradd Moore's art?
