Marvel's Inhumans: New Details On Attilan's Location

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Earth is about to receive a royal delegation from outer space.

The Royal Family that is the focus of Marvel's Inhumans is now confirmed not to be from Earth. The Inhuman city of Attilan, which can move from place to place, will also not be located on Earth.

Showrunner Scott Buck confirmed Attilan is not located on Earth when it is visited in the new show. He also added that the Inhuman population boom on Earth, as seen in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, could still affect the plot of Marvel's Inhumans.

"We all inhabit the same universe, so things that have happened on SHIELD will potentially affect our show as well," Buck told Entertainment Weekly.

That Attilan is not presently located on Earth helps to explain why the Royal Family hasn't involved themselves with the Inhumans who have appeared on Earth ever since the incident with the Inhuman community at Afterlife in the second season of Agents of SHIELD.

Marvel's Inhumans star Anson Mount, who plays King Black Bolt, reiterated the Royal Family's origin in talking about his character's use of sign language.

"I actually have to do more preparation when it comes to scenes in which I sign, and I can't use American Sign Language," Mount said. "Because he's not from Earth, he wouldn't know American Sign Language, so I'm making my own sign system."

Neither Buck nor Mount offered any clues as to where Attilan is if not on Earth. The "Great Refuge," as the Inhumans called it, was discovered by the Fantastic Four in the Himalayas in the Marvel Comics universe. The Royal Family moved Attilan when their people began to grow ill from Earth's pollution, relocating Attilan to the Blue Area of the Moon, an area in a crater of Earth's moon that was given an artificial Earth-like atmosphere by alien devices. Perhaps this will be where Attilan is located when the events of Marvel's Inhumans takes place.

In Marvel's Inhumans, after the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

Marvel's Inhumans stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Meduas, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Ellen Woglom.

Marvel's Inhumans is executive produced by Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel's Iron Fist) with Jeph Loeb (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage). Buck is serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (Admiral, Black Sails) will direct the first two episodes, which will debut in IMAX theaters. Marvel's Inhumans is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

The first two episodes of Marvel's Inhumans will premiere in IMAX theaters on Friday, Sept. 1. The full eight-episode series will air on ABC in the fall.
