X-Men: Apocalypse will reintroduce two characters with arguably the most iconic mutant romance in X-Men history, Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner). But with X-Men: Apocalypse taking place in a post X-Men: Days of Future Past timeline, and Jean and Scott meeting each other at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters for the first time, are sparks still destined to fly?

Director Bryan Singer says maybe not, at least at first.

"In the beginning, she's the last thing he's interested in," Singer tells EW. "When he first comes to the mansion, Scott's blind so he can't see her. Suddenly he gets some glasses and now he can see her and he's like 'Oh! That's Jean Grey.' Both of them are misfits in a way. Other mutants have settled in with their powers. This is all new to Scott Summers and he doesn't like it and he doesn't like school. And Jean she has not only has her telekenisis and her telepathy but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her and she doesn't quite know what it is."

Something darker growing in Jean? That never ends poorly for anyone…

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
