X-Men: Bryan Singer Shares A New The Gifted Set Photo Of Polaris

Bryan Singer has revealed a new photo from the set of The Gifted. The photo features Emma Dumont in her role as Lorna Dana, a.ka. Polaris, the mutant mistress of magnetism.

The photo follows just after the announcement that The Gifted has been picked up by Fox. The announcement was accompanied by the first teaser trailer for the series.

The Gifted is the second television series to launch as part of Fox's X-Men film franchise, following the premiere of Legion on FX in February. Singer, who has directed four of the X-Men movies, directed the pilot for The Gifted.

In the Marvel Comics universe, Polaris is the daughter of Magneto and inherited her father's mutant ability to control magnetic forces. There has been no confirmation that Polaris' heritage will be referenced in The Gifted.

The Gifted focuses on a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

The Gifted was created by Matt Nix (Burn Notice) for Fox. The series stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood) as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker (Person of Interest) as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale (Incorporated) as Marcos Diaz/Eclipse, Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time) as Clarice Fong/Blink, Coby Bell (Burn Notice) as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars) as Lorna Dane/Polaris, Blair Redford (Switched at Birth) as John Proudstar/Thunderbird, Natalie Alyn Lind (Gotham) as Lauren Strucker, and Percy Hynes White (11.22.63) as Andy Strucker.

Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory executive produced the pilot for The Gifted.

The Gifted replaced Hellfire, a television show centered on the villainous Hellfire Club, as part of Marvel and Fox's X-Men television plans. Hellfire was announced alongside Legion but lagged behind in production. Hellfire was eventually abandoned by Marvel and Fox. The studios explained that the project felt too much like a movie to make the jump to a television series format.

The Gifted will be more directly tied to the X-Men mythology than Legion, which uses the character of David Haller as a jumping off point to create its own mini-universe and supporting cast. Sentinels have been confirmed to appear in The Gifted, suggesting it may take place in a timeline en route to the future seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The Gifted will premiere on Fox in the fall.
