Rumor: The 100's Lindsey Morgan Could Be Playing Batgirl

The Internet has been buzzing with excitement after the recent news that a Batgirl solo film is on the way from Warner Bros. and DC Comics. While the Joss Whedon-helmed film is a ways away from entering production, many fans have already begun to speculate about who will be playing the title role.

A new rumor suggests that the role could possibly go to Lindsey Morgan, best known for playing Raven Reyes on The CW's post-apocalyptic series The 100.

While there is only a bit of evidence to hint that Morgan could possibly get the role, it's enough to definitely keep an eye on. Morgan posted a rather cryptic tweet a few weeks ago, hinting at a "new project" that she is very excited for.

This might seem like it has no bearing on the Batgirl project, until you look at Morgan's Twitter page. She recently retweeted Variety's article breaking the news that Whedon would be directing and writing the project, as well as a tweet advocating for her to play the role.

A quick look through her Twitter likes reveals that she has favorited several tweets on the subject as well, even some that don't directly reference her being cast for the role. While this could look like Morgan is just excited that the film is happening, there are certainly too many coincidences at play for the nerd world to not keep an eye on.

Given the passionate following that Morgan has accumulated by appearing on The 100, it would be a logical step for Warner Bros. to attach her to a project of this scale. The actress would be enough of a fresh face to help craft a new interpretation of Batgirl - a character that has appeared on the big and small screen for decades. Morgan is also biracial, allowing her to believably be a daughter of the DCEU's Commissioner Gordon (J.K. Simmons), while bringing some much-appreciated diversity to both Gotham City and the superhero genre as a whole.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

DC and Warner Bros. have a full slate ahead, with Teen Titans: The Judas Contract coming first on April 4, 2017. After that it's time for Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017. The Batman is expected sometime in 2018, with The Flash debuting on March 23, 2018. Aquaman is set for October 5, 2018, and Nightwing's solo feature is due sometime in 2019.
