Fast And Furious Writer Reveals Original Paul Walker Plans Post-Furious 7

After Paul Walker's tragic passing, fans of the Fast and Furious franchise were left at a loss. Many were uncertain how the films could go on without the actor given his integral role in the franchise. Known for his work as Brian O'Conner, Walker was given a touching exit from the franchise in Furious 7 thanks to the help of movie magic and a track by Wiz Khalifa. However, plans had been made prior to Walker's death which would have continued his future with the Fast and Furious films.

Now, one of the franchise's writers is opening up about how the films were forced to alter course after the unexpected ordeal. Chris Morgan sat down with Variety to talk about his work on the Fast and Furious films, and the writer admitted his creative team had no plans to write Walker out of the story after Furious 7.

"In the original story, it was more of a mid-life crisis. A crisis of fatherhood. Brian, Paul's character, has a kid, He's missing the action of some of his younger days; there's the grass is always greener kind of thing," he said.

"I don't think we would have had him step out of the franchise. When he died, we looked at it, and thought maybe [emphasizing] this is the best way to give him a graceful exit, so he's always alive in this universe."

Given the circumstances, the folks behind the Fast and Furious films did what they could to give Walker's role a meaningful end. The last scene of Furious 7 remains a touching one for fans as it highlighted the strong bond between Brian and Dominic. When fans rush to theaters this weekend to see The Fate of the Furious, audience will get to learn a bit more about Brian's fate in that universe. So, for now, fans can only pay their respects to Walker and occasionally wonder about what might have been.

In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.
