The Fate Of The Furious Had The Biggest Global Opening Weekend Ever

Don't get in the way of the Fast and Furious films. If you do, then you are likely to get bowled over by the international box office. This weekend, the franchise's eighth film had its debut, and expectations for the Fate of the Furious were understandably high. Universal Pictures successfully turned the car rally series into thrilling feature with blockbusting heist action. And, as predicted, the numbers for the Fate of the Furious will keep the franchise alive for a good while longer.

According to Universal, the Fate of the Furious has made an estimated $532.5 million at the global box office so far. In the U.S, the movie raked in about $100 million, and its Chinese debut made even more. Its foreign premiere in China has earned just over $190 million, and other countries have rallied behind the Fate of the Furious as well.

Thanks to the global supporting, the Fate of the Furious has stripped a rather important title from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Disney film held the previous record for having the highest global opening weekend ever when it raked in $529 million. However, when the Star Wars feature did open, China was not in its pocket at first. The film opened in the massive market about a month after U.S. fans got to preview the film.

Not only did the Fate of the Furious assume a title once given to The Force Awakens, but the feature now has the biggest international opening of any movie to date. The blockbuster has made a total of $432.3 million overseas, beating out Jurassic World's record of $316 million.
