James Gunn Reveals Why He Changed The Power Stone's Color In Guardians Of The Galaxy

The Infinity Stones have been used as a plot device to connect the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because of that, you would have thought Marvel Studios had every little detail regarding them, like which color each one is, all planned out well in advance. Today, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn posted an image of the original Infinity Stone of Power and it's red -- as it is in the comics -- but was altered to purple in post after he saw the Reality Stone was red in Thor: The Dark World.

"The Marvel Phase 2 Box Set will be available exclusively on Amazon on December 9," Gunn wrote. "It's all within a replica of the Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy. Below is a photo of the original Orb, which is in my dining room, a birthday gift from the folks at Marvel. And, yes, the power stone was originally red but I changed it in post-production after seeing the Aether in Thor 2 (sometimes we're not as well planned out as you guys think)."

Below, check out the image of the red power stone.

James Gunn (Slither, Super), director of 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, will return to write and direct the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
