Listen to Parts of John Williams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens Score
12/11/2015 12:21 pm EST
One of the most powerful and recognizable parts of Star Wars is the score. When John Williams' themes start to soar, it takes you instantly to that galaxy far away. You can instantly imagine the twin suns of Tatooine, the imposing figure of Darth Vader and the assembled army of the Empire, or the power and beauty of Leia when you hear just a few bars of John Williams music.
While other interpretations of the music of Star Wars are entertaining, there's something special about the composer himself making music and conducting an orchestra. That's what's so appealing about the upcoming 60 Minutes special focused on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where much of the interview with JJ Abrams seems it was recorded while Williams was recording the score for the new film.
The preview clip gives us the biggest taste of the new music yet, with only little bits and pieces in the trailers so far, so Sunday night's episode should be a real treat. Check it out on CBS at 7pm, and kick off your week of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, because when this episode airs, it will be the week of the film's release.
