The newest video game to motion picture translation will center around Ubisoft's immensely successful Assassin's Creed franchise, and 20th Century Fox has released a brand new look at Michael Fassbender in the lead role.

The image does allow a closer look at Fassbender's Assassin robes (via Yahoo), but unfortunately, it doesn't provide any clues in regards to plot or story elements. Whoever he's looking at better hope their will is intact, though, because he appears to be there on business and not for pleasure.

While the film will feature callbacks to the games upon which it is based, don't expect characters like Ezio or Altair to make appearances. Weapon designer Tim Wildgoose did say in a previous interview that fans will be excited to see who does manage to show up.

"There's basically a few assassins taken straight from the games, who we get to see in the films. We actually get to use some of the real game weapons in there. They're very famous characters that the fans will probably enjoy."

The series also has a knack for using famous historical figures from the chosen era in unique and interesting ways, like how Paul Revere was used in Assassin's Creed III and how Leonardo da Vinci was used throughout Ezio's storyline in Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed Revelations. Hopefully, the same method will be applied to the 15th century, the era that the film will reside in.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin's Creed hits theaters on December 21st.
