Power Rangers Can't Overcome Beauty And The Beast In Friday Box Office

The Power Rangers were first brought together by Zordon to defend the world from Rita Repulsa and her minions, but it seems they couldn't quite stave off a the Beast and his army of clocks, candelabras, and wardrobes.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast might be in its second week, but that hasn't stopped it from piling up more box office receipts (via Variety). The Emma Watson starring film pulled in another 23.5 million on Friday from 4,210 theaters, and if it keeps up the impressive pace it could total out to another $90 million dollar weekend for the film. That would place Beauty and the Beast above $300 million stateside, and also above $500 million worldwide.

As for Power Rangers, it didn't set the world on fire with a $15 million dollar Friday from 3,693 theaters. At this pace, the film is expected to hit somewhere over $40 million for the weekend. That has to be a bit disappointing for the studio but still counts as a solid release. Life also debuted this week, bringing in $4.3 million on Friday from 3,146 locations, and CHIPS scored around $2.6 million from 2,464 theaters. Life is expected to hit around $13 million once the weekend is done, with CHIPS hauling in around $7 million.

Beauty and the Beast is in theaters now, while Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge lands on May 26, 2017. Cars 3 is next up, racing into theaters on July 14, 2017, with Pixar's Coco hitting on November 22nd, 2017. Disney's live action Cruella currently has no release date, and neither does Maleficent 2, The Jungle Book sequel, or the live-action Aladdin. Toy Story 4 hits on July 13, 2018, and the live-action Mulan is scheduled for November 2nd, 2018. Mary Poppins Returns lands shortly thereafter on December 25, 2018.
