Warner Brothers has hired screenwriter James Coyne (Puncture Wounds, Vikingdom) to rewrite Sherlock Holmes 3, according to Deadline.
The script was originally penned by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce, who was hired in October 2011.
Director Guy Ritchie (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), who directed the first two installments, along with the franchise's two stars, Robert Downey Jr. ('Sherlock Holmes') and Jude Law ('Dr. John Hamish Watson'), are all returning for the threequel.
2009's Sherlock Holmes and its 2011 sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, grossed just over a half a billion each at the worldwide box office.
Sherlock Holmes 3 might go into production later this year.
