Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray Release Pirated Online
03/23/2016 11:37 am EDT
Over 250,000 people have stolen Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just twelve hours, after a leaked Blu-ray copy of the film was put online Tuesday. It tops major torrent sites, with dozens of copies - most coming from the same original source, according to TorrentFreak.
The Digital HD edition hits on April 1, 2016, with the Blu-ray and DVD editions coming just four days later on April 5.
Disney has been trying to curtail piracy, sending tens of thousands of takedown requests before this latest leak, seeking to take down the camcorder copies that were already circulating.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the top-grossing movie in US history, and landed at #3 overall worldwide after setting over 35 other box office records. The sequel, currently filming under the tentative title of simply Star Wars: Episode VIII, is due in theaters December 15, 2017.
