Team USA Raises Half A Million For Giant Robot Duel With Japan

A Kickstarter to build giant robots to fight one another has raised over half a million dollars.
MegaBots, Inc. are running the Kickstarter in order to pay for upgrades to their giant combat robot, which will square off against a Japanese firm in a year, according to the Kickstarter. "We challenged Japan to a giant robot duel, and they accepted... but demanded that the fight include hand-to-hand combat," says MegaBots.
There will, of course, be a documentary film that spins out of the process of putting this together with the Battlebots founders, former Mythbuster Grant Imahara and more.
The $500,000 goal covers just a third of the overall cost of developing the robots, but will pay to:
- Add heavy duty armor plating
- Add some serious firepower
- Upgrade hydraulics to handle the heavier armor and firepower
- Increase top speed
- Upgrade power unit to keep up with our new hydraulic system and speed
You can check out the link at top to contribute to the Kickstarter, with a wide variety of rewards available.
