Deadline is reporting that The Expendables 2 director Simon West will direct the remake of the 1958 classic horror movie The Blob.
The original The Blob starred Steve McQueen. The movie sees a gelatinous alien lifeform overtaking a Pennsylvania town, consuming everything and everyone in its path. The film got a sequel, Beware! The Blob, in 1972, and a remake in 1988.
"With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob," says West. "The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It's a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans."
Principal photography for The Blob is expected to begin this summer.
