Lucasfilm Exec Hints At Captain Phasma's Unmasked Appearance In The Last Jedi

When Lucasfilm's latest film in the Star Wars saga finally premieres later this year, it'll be packed with many revelations that are sure to send shockwaves through both the Light and Dark Sides of the Force.

Vanity Fair recently published a breathtaking series of photographs from the set of the new film taken by Annie Liebowitz as well as a few features packed with interesting details. One of those photographs features three of the most prominent members of the First Order: Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Captain Phasma.

Perhaps most interesting is the fact that Phasma is unmasked, revealing actor Gwendoline Christie under the chrome-plated helmet.

Lucasfilm Story Group executive Pablo Hidalgo addressed this particular photograph at the Comic Con de Chile during his spotlight panel, during which he hinted that Phasma would be unmasked in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

As documented by PrensaImperial, who were present at the panel, Hidalgo said we might see Phasma's face in Episode VIII, the character might not appear as she does in that particular photograph. Hidalgo said that though Phasma is a woman, she might not appear with Christie's facial likeness—that photo in the Vanity Fair spread was a behind the scenes portrayal.

So is Phasma non-human? Perhaps a droid? Or maybe disfigured? Hidalgo's comments are sure to cause a ton of speculation as fans wait for new information regarding the new Stormtrooper commander.

Phasma will be the focus of both a new comic book series from Marvel as well as her own novel, both set to arrive later this year. Maybe the next hint to her true appearance will be within the pages of those.

We're sure to find out definitively when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters December 15.
