Lucasfilm Releases New Jyn Erso Profile Card From Star Wars Rogue One

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's promotional machine is kicking into high gear, especially now that Doctor Strange, the last Disney live-action movie ahead of the first standalone Star Wars movie is in theaters. Lucasfilm released a new special profile card for the star of the film, Jyn Erso (as played by Felicity Jones) Friday, via the Star Wars twitter account.

"Are you with her?" they tweeted with the image, making a play on the presidential campaign slogan "I'm with her" for democratic candidate Hilary Clinton.

Erso, however, is not a career freedom fighter (or politician), as was teased in the trailers and her profile card emphasizes.

"Putting behind a checkered past by lending her skills to a greater cause, Jyn Erso is impetuous, defiant, and eager to bring the battle to the Empire," the card reads. "Used to operating alone, she finds higher purpose by taking on a desperate mission for the Rebel Alliance."

From director Gareth Edwards, Rogue One will tell the story of the band of rebels who embark on a mission to steal the plans to the first Death Star, as mentioned in a couple of lines of the opening crawl of the first Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Jyn Erso is more directly connected than just being a citizen of the galaxy who wants to make a difference, though, as her father Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) is actually involved with the design of the Death Star, thanks to his experiments in energy being used for its massive, planet-destroying laser.

Erso also marks the second consecutive Star Wars film with a female lead, after Daisy Ridley starred as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The move is significant, as is the general diversity of the principal cast. The core team of Rebels consists of a man of Pakistani decent, a black man, two asian men, an hispanic man, and is led by a white woman. Hopefully we'll get more of these Character Profile style looks at the other castmembers. That likewise followed the lead of The Force Awakens, which featured a trio of young new characters: a white woman, a black man, and an hispanic man.

The question on fans' minds, though, is what if any future any of these characters can have: will they all survive the assault against the Empire? Will any of them survive?
