Could These Details Reveal Snoke's True Identity?

One of the biggest mysteries that came with the release of 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the new, villainous character Snoke, who ordered around Kylo Ren and General Hux as a massive hologram. Other than hypothesizing about Rey's parents, the biggest question fans of the film had centered around the Supreme Leader, most notably, who Snoke was and how he came to power. With the abundance of books, TV shows, comic books, and a new theme park, is it possible the seeds of Snoke's origins have already been planted, but nobody's noticed?

There are as many theories about Snoke's true identity as there are people who have watched The Force Awakens, and with no clear answers on the horizon, fans have consumed every piece of Star Wars media looking for answers.

Following Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, the "Lucasfilm Story Group" was created, which focused on creating a unified narrative that connected films, TV, books, video games, and comics. With this group's creation, every story other than the previous six films and The Clone Wars animated series was no longer considered canon, ruling out many options for Snoke's true identity.

In Timothy Zahn's novel Thrawn, which focused on Grand Admiral Thrawn, explaining that he hailed from the "Unexplored Regions" of the Star Wars universe. These Unexplored Regions have been explored in various canonical novels and many fans have theorized that one of the planets within this area was the planet that became Starkiller Base. In this novel, Thrawn himself also mentions a threat "more evil than the Empire, and far more dangerous to all living beings" that exists in that part of space.

In Chuck Wendig's novel Aftermath: Empire's End, the emperor has supposedly been contacted with a dark entity that could potentially be found within the Unexplored Regions, which could be the very same threat Thrawn spoke of.

In 2019, Star Wars Land will open at Disneyland, and when speaking at Star Wars Celebration, Imagineering creative executive Scott Trowbridge said that one of the planets the theme park will explore is "somewhere on the outer-rim, lying on the edge of Unknown Regions."

Thanks to the Lucasfilm Story Group, everything about the Star Wars saga is just as important to the mythology as every other part, from novels to comics to theme parks. Although these pieces on their own don't determine Snoke's identity, all of these clues remind you to pay close attention to all pieces of Star Wars media if you truly want to comprehend every aspect of that galaxy far, far away.
