Princess Leia And Han Solo's Rift Begins In Star Wars Aftermath: Empire's End

Of all the epic highs and tragic lows making up the saga of the Star Wars universe, none reach the peaks and valleys of Han Solo and Leia Organa's ill-fated romance.

Though the Original Trilogy gave the two a storybook finale, their journey did not end there. And even after the hardships of the Extended Universe were wiped with Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Story Group and JJ Abrams still put the Galaxy's favorite couple through the wringer.

When we saw Leia and Han's reunion in the Force Awakens, it was both short lived and bittersweet. And while that film delivered Han a final fate at the hands of his own son, we never got to see the circumstances that drove them apart.

Well, maybe we'll finally get a glimpse of their happiness and subsequent wedge when Chuck Wendig's latest novel comes out next week.

Star Wars Aftermath: Empire's End was recently previewed on the official Star Wars website in a chapter excerpt focusing exclusively on Leia and Han, specifically during the time of Leia's pregnancy.

Wendig really nails Leia's dialog and characterization—you can almost hear the late, great Carrie Fisher when reading her lines—and his use of Han as a concerned papa is likewise amusing.

But even then, Wendig hints at the problems that eventually drive them apart when Ben turns to the Dark Side, one being Leia's obsessions with helping the galaxy and the other being Han's inability to be complacent.

It's a great excerpt and indicative of what promises to be a wonderful final chapter in Wendig's Aftermath trilogy. It is also supposed to feature the Battle of Jakku, hinted at in the Force Awakens.

Plus, you know you want to find out what happened to Jar Jar after all these years. So get the book when it comes out on Tuesday and hype yourself up for Star Wars: Episode VIII—The Last Jedi.
