Lucasfilm Releases Statement About Colin Trevorrow's Exit From 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

It wasn't long ago that a bomb was dropped on the Star Wars fandom. A report confirmed Colin Trevorrow has parted ways with Star Wars: Episode IX, and Lucasfilm has now released its own statement about the split.

"Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon."

Lucasfilm's note about differing visions is grabbing interest with fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, script issues were at the heart of Trevorrow's split from the film. Screenwriter Jack Thorne is currently working on a new draft of the film, so fans are anxious to learn more about the project as it moves along.

Of course, fans know that Trevorrow's departure from Episode IX is the latest scandal to come from Lucasfilm as of late. Earlier this year, news broke that the directors of the Han Solo spinoff parted aways with the company. Christopher Miller and Tim Lord left the film over content issues, and Lucasfilm brought in Ron Howard to finish the film out.

Strangely enough, Lucasfilm's statement for the Han Solo exit sounds strangely similar to Trevorrow's bow-out. You can compare the company's new release with the one it debuted for Miller and Lord below:

"Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it's become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we've decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon."

Star Wars fans are mixed about the latest director exit, but some are glad to see Trevorrow go. Several social media campaigns rallied for the director to leave Episode IX after his latest film, The Book of Henry, debuted. The movie was a critical and commercial disaster, so fans were worried the film was a preview of how Episode IX would be received.

Right now, Lucasfilm is putting its energy into The Last Jedi as the next Star Wars film will debut this December. However, work is already being planned for Episode IX. The studio's first focus will be to bring in a new director for the project, so fans should keep an eye out for a new announcement by the company soon.
