Kevin Smith Thinks Millennium Falcon Will Be Next Big Star Wars Loss

The Star Wars franchise is sort of entering new territory after the release of The Last Jedi, with fans speculating how the story will resolve in Episode IX. According to fan-favorite director Kevin Smith, that could involve a rather heartbreaking goodbye.
During a recent episode of his Fatman on Batman podcast, Smith hypothesized about what the next big "loss" for the main Star Wars franchise will be.
"They killed Han Solo in The Force Awakens." Smith explained. "They killed Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. Sadly, Carrie has passed, so they have to deal with the Princess Leia of it all. But what do you think is the next big loss?"
According to Smith, there's one option that would certainly qualify as a loss, while sort of properly ushering out the original cast.
"I think it's the Falcon." Smith revealed. "That would really rip all of our hearts out. And, at the same time, legacy cast is gone, maybe they don't necessarily — if it's a big enough story beat, I bet you that's what goes."
Considering how many questions are unanswered following The Last Jedi, the Falcon somehow being destroyed certainly feels possible. (And, depending on the response to Solo: A Star Wars Story, it could really pull on fans' heartstrings.) And as Smith explained, there are a few iconic Star Wars characters that just feel off limits.
"They'll never kill Chewie, because you could be Chewie for 400 years." Smith added. "It's a guy in a suit. They can't kill any of the droids, that could be anybody and stuff. But they've got to kill something that makes us go 'No! I f*cking love that from my childhood!'"
Ultimately, fans will just have to wait and see how Episode IX unfolds - and what characters it takes along with it. And if some fan theories are correct, quite a few The Last Jedi casualties could be resurrected as well.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters now.
